About the project

What is the project about?

#sportforhope - Building bridges...

#Integration is starting from today

As a project we want to help where children and young people are, whether in the emergency shelter, refugee camp or in a small village!

In the next step, when confidence and trust is built, we will start with the integration process into existing structures and organizations!

So we want to create an initiative that combines existing and emerging structures!

Our Plan...

Step 1 & 2: Emergency aid:

We want to equip a van with sports material and help „from tomorrow“. Our motto is: follow the need!

  • We want to establish a pool of volunteers and professionals to prepare long-term assistance.
  • Important for us is the regularity and continuity of the help provided.

Step 3 & 4 : Building bridges & develop structures

Only in the next step, when trust is built up, we want to start the transition process into existing structures and organisations:

  • We want to empower the children and youngsters to participate regularly in sport activities
  • We want to provide longterm support for sports clubs
  • We want to continue helping those with special needs in order to be able to participate

Step 5: #sportforhope goes Europe!

We think the so called refugee crisis is a chance for Europe to grow together! So from spring 2016 we plan to set up European initiatives in cooperation with two similar projects: Kicking Girls (www.kicking-girls.info) and KICKFORMORE (www.kickformore.org). So far, a youth exchange week for unaccompanied refugees is planned in summer 2016, but there is more to come - so stay tuned!

Our approach is based on three pillars:

  • Mobility & flexibility
  • Material-Pool for many sports and game types
  • Sustainable combination of professionals and volunteers

For this program, we are looking for support!

with the donated money we will

  • Make sport & play material available
  • Finance  experienced social pedagogues and sports educators
  • Train Volunteers
  • Organise Youth Exchange

#sportforhope - let's get the people into our midst!

What happens with the money if financing was successful

The donated money goes immediately & directly in the work with children and young people!

Here every day counts and every euro.

The funds will be used as follows:

  • € 5.500, - for sport and play material
  • € 8.500, - for more experienced social, games and sports educators
  • € 1.500, - for the training of volunteers colleagues
  • € 4.500, - for the European Encounter

NONE of the money will be used to cover Administration- or other central costs

Background info

Austria in July 2015 - 8.593 applications for asylum; last year 2.218;

Since the beginning of the year 37.046 people have applied for asylum in Austria, nearly 25.000 coming from the war zones Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. Since January a total of 4.789 unaccompanied children and young people under 18, including 262 children under 14 years applied.

The majority of refugees is coming over the so-called Balkan route. This leads to the fact that half of the refugee population is concentrated around Vienna.

In Austria, with year-end 80,000 people have applied for asylum - of which at least 10,000 children and young people...

Motivation - #refugees welcome

The people who flee from the war zones, had to endure sometimes terrible tragedies and in many cases have lost EVERYTHING. To provide only a roof over their head and a hot meal, is not enough in this case.

Especially for children: many have not seen a school from the inside for years - months on the run, facing hunger, deprivation etc.

The existing Laureus Snow Tiger Project is giving support to migrants of the first generation living in Austria with great success. In co-operation with schools and educational institutions we are working here on sustainable pathways of integration (<link www.facebook.com/LaureusSchneetiger)&gt;https://www.facebook.com/LaureusSchneetiger?ref=aymt_homepage_panel</link>).

But now Europe is facing the largest wave of refugees since the end of WW2. Only the courageous actions of Germany and Austria has so far averted a humanitarian catastrophe.

#sportforhope can make a significant contribution - and make the difference...

#Sport has the power to change the world...

Our approach - flight was yesterday, integration is today!

With the help of the #sporforhope project the children will get the chance to recharge their batteries, to be distracted and to look ahead.

Project outline

Through weekly sports activities in cooperation with social workers and interpreters we will create a safe environment just to feel, to move and to act as a child.

Ideal would be a socio-spatial approach, and thus a mobile offer that is adapted to the places and conditions where children and young people are.

The project has hired staff, who take care of the core activities, as well as a pool of volunteers.

Through the combination of professional structures and volunteers, the sustainability of the project approach is guaranteed.

Our support ranges from simple assistance of local organisations, train the trainer 'workshops, to building a local network.

The project seeks to build resource-saving and sustainable local and regional structures in cooperation with clubs, associations and educational institutions

Phase 1: building bridges where there are none ...

We want to equip a Sprinter with sporting material and help children, adolescents and young adults on site.

For this a pool of experienced social workers, trainers and toddler teachers is already available.

Critical areas such as trauma therapy will be performed by core staff members.

Phase 2: From emergency relief to sustainable integration ...

Depending on the situation - whether temporary housing or refugee house in the countryside - we want to build appropriate support.

The "Sport Programms" are intended to help to overcome limitations, without being an additional burden on the limited existing budgets of municipalities or other NGOs.

The possibilities are endless: from a simple two hour workshop to a multi-day youth camp.

Phase 3: Provide longterm support ...

Over the last 10 years we have collected a lot of experience in working with people with support needs. In particular, on the subject of persons with disabilities, we want and we can specifically advise and accompany other organizations in building up adequate sport programs.

Sustainable integration succeeds when there is enough & adequate support for schools, educational institutions and associations.

Phase 4: #sportforhope goes Europe!

What happens to the collected money

Provide unbureaucratic help - Fast but professional! It is to be our goal as quickly as possible with experienced trainers and social workers on site.

Make things available! We want to support 500 children and young people within a year.

Help without conditions! Since the reception and integration process may take up to 6 months and the influx of refugees is not ending -  there is great need for the project
