About the project

What is the project about?

The Charles Wratto Foundation has set the goal to realize an universal High-School-Center in the rural Nimba County, Liberia. The young girls and boys from the 11 surrounding villages wouldn’t have the chance of education without this center. The next school is a dangerous three-day-walk away. “Charles who is our son, came with a special gift that will open the  eyes of our children and that makes us happy”, says a Grandfather from Nimba County. Education is the key.

So – why a Pick-Up?

2015 we started the project and the people from Nimba County are working since
then with all their powers. They carry all the materials by hand or on their heads –
the Young and the Old haul sand, gravel and other construction materials. Why?
Because this School can change their lifes. But after two years of work, just half a
meter of the walls is finished. But not because the people work too slow but
because the transport of the materials takes too much time.

What happens with the money if financing was successful

(ca. € 500 - € 1000)

More than 50 000 new buildings get approved every year in a European country like
Austria, and within the following few years 90 percent of these projects are
completely realized. Heavy machines set up the often prefabricated walls in very
short time and after a few months the first tenants move in already. But how can
you build a house without heavy machines and with just a few workers?

But that’s not all – although the civil war in Liberia is over since 2003, many triebes
are still hostile to each other. Since the founder himself, Charles Wratto, endured
the cruelties of hatred and enmity as a child soldier, he wants to put an end to it.
Mediation in form of sports, music and more can unite the youngsters and replace
pointless hostility through future-oriented ways of thinking
