Details

The existence of an increased number of Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) is a global social crisis, with differing intensity and magnitude across the world that we are facing today. The current and future hope of children darkens when their parents get sick, die, or become disable. That is, parents due to varieties of reasons, become unable to fulfill their parental responsibilities. Children without biological parents suffer a great deal of emotional, physical, spiritual and psychological deprivations that increases their potential vulnerabilities.

Street Children in Bahir Dar, Amhara Region, Ethiopia need urgent care – re-integration into homes and family structures, clothes and school uniform, general supply and school stationaries, they need to be trained to sustain their livelihood.

We are selling vouchers, 1 package for 50 Euro includes a monthly GAFÉIAS Salary of 800 Birr time 0.04 equivalent 32 Euro + 450 Birr equivalent 18 Euro for above stated expenses proportionately.

This GAFÉIAS Project is based on agreement with Municipal Council Bahir Dar, signed by Mayor, as of 30/12/2005 according the Ethiopian Calendar, equivalent 05/09/2013 and conducted in the frame of Model Smart Green City Plan for Bahir Dar initiated by a team of experts’ team including GAFÉIAS.

After the preparatory works we will continue working on comprehensive project proposal in order to submit it at the soonest to high potential international project donors in order to achieve a maximum impact.

We are focusing our attention on improvement of life conditions for a maximum number of street children in Bahir Dar, Amhara as well as in the Capital City Addis Ababa and in the poorest region or the country, in Tigray, Northern Ethiopia.

GAFÉIAS ETHIOPIA intends this project as a long term initiative. Steady increase of impact is based on long term investments.

Budget

  • Projektrisiken

The number of Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) is rising.

These children become victim of physical, social, psychological and legal problems.

Poverty, HIV/AIDS, conflict, drought and so on are the underline causes for the growth of the problem.

Government capacity to intervene and alleviate this problem is minimal.

There is no social security system that can protect OVC.

The extended family system has been the back up that supports such sectors of society, but as the number of OVC and their needs is rising, it becomes a challenge for the this traditional system to resolve it.

Hence, it is obvious the problem requires a broad range of actors that could dedicate their action to contribute to the efforts going on to give opportunities to Children under difficult circumstances.

ENFOLIVE - High Risk Street Children Aid in Ethiopia, News, October 24, 2013, by Filmon Lebelo

Tesfaye Nigusu, Musie Tadessse and I have been working on Bahir Dar High Risk Children project. Anegagerie Mekonen collected information and different kinds of data from the Municipal Council of Bahir Dar, which can be used as an input for the project we are drafting for Bahir Dar. He has been also instructed to identify possible stakeholders in our work and make good contacts. We are looking forward to more research we need to conduct.
