The Austrian-Ethiopian Society would like to thank Dr. med. univ. Robert Sucher, (Head, Medical Affairs Committee, Austrian-Ethiopian Society) for his volunteer medical affairs mission to Lalibela and Dr. Abay Wodaje for sending a short report about the volunteer medical service of Dr. med. univ. The Austrian-Ethiopian Society would like to thank Dr. med. univ. Robert Sucher, (Head, Medical Affairs Committee, Austrian-Ethiopian Society) for his volunteer medical affairs mission to Lalibela and Dr. Abay Wodaje for sending a short report about the volunteer medical service of Dr. med. univ. Robert Sucher at Kalkidan Clinic in Lalibela.

Moreover, I would like to thank Dr. Robert Sucher sending very instructive pictures of his work together with Dr. Abay Wodaje in the Clinic and with members of his staff. (Enclosures)

Summarizing Dr. Abay's mission, to give a better service and treatment for the people that live in Lalibela (more than 20.000 inhabitants, Center of pilgrimage and tourism, school city, center for North Wollo Zone), around Lalibela and the tourists that come to Lalibela, by supplying effective and efficient medical treatments and by upgrading the clinic.

Dr. Abay Wodaje reports, that mostly mothers and children are affected by very challenging diseases and also death is increasing from day to day because the suffering of people is dramatic, is highly concerning. However, first of all, he intends to save the life of people.

He also reports that his is analysing the gaps in the governmental health facilities that is either shortage of medicine or medical equipment and that he tries to fill that gaps.

Dr. Sucher advised to work hard to expand and upgrade the clinic in order to improve medical service for the community.

He also reported, that due to road construction and according to improved logistics infrastructure the extension of the clinic is easier to manage.

Dr. Sucher donated relevant medical equipment and medication for Kalkidan Clinic and is providing foremost medical investigations and treatments.

Moreover, Dr. Sucher investigated already all students during his medical affairs mission in early 2018 who are supported by Lalibela Education Project - accompanied Tomas Yirdae Getaye Mihretie, the first supported student of the project, as a medical assistant - as well as other pupils and teachers in Geterge Elementary School, Naoktaleb Elementary School, Lalibela Secondary School, Shimsha Secondary School, and Peparatory School, where our dear friend and colleague, Mr. Mulugeta Micheal Andagrie was Principal.

Mr. Mulugeta, former Principal of Saint Lalibela Preparatory School, addressed Mama Burgi (the founder and leader of the project, Mrs. Walburga Sajovitz from Carinthia) and Dr. Robert Sucher early last year regarding a serious and life-threatening complication. In utmost urgency Dr. Sucher advised a medical emergency treatment in Addis Ababa, St. Yared General Hospital, financed by donors of the personal environment of Walburga Sajovitz, which happily succeeded. Mr. Mulugeta reported March 29, 2018, "I have no words to thank and express my inner happiness for your humanitarian thinking AND SUPPORT. You not only saved my life but all the family and serving the community students. I will give witness for your project donors" - "With the simplest words "THANKS A LOT" GOD LOOKS AFTER YOU WHEREVER YOU GO". December 14, 2018, Mr. Mulugeta informed, that he had been assigned for a new responsibility as Head of Amhara Democratic Party - not far away from Education Sector. Moreover, he contributes to sustain the new political and economic change of Ethiopia, which is taking place sind April 2, 2018, the date of the inauguration of the new Ethiopian Prime Minister, Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali! I would like to cordially congratulate Mr. Mulugeta - it is great to know that a man of his bright consciousness is working for the benefits of people in such a high position!

I still remember well as Mr. Mulugeta asked me to support his plan for a dormitory especially for school girls to be constructed on the compound facilities of Saint Lalibela Preparatory School. I received his concept in due responsibility - please find enclosed the document "Empowering Girls Education", including the plan to establish a Building as a 'hostile resource Center for girls'. It reminds me on our already started project 'Lalibela Education Building', which is under construction since February 2014 and presently under negotiation with Mr. Misgan Assefa Lulie.

Closing my message, I would like to express my utmost gratitude to all contributing colleagues involved in Lalibela Education Project, Medical Affairs Committee work, and to encourage all of us to continue our efforts in behalf of our beloved students, colleagues, friends and people in Lalibela and meanwhile other numerous University Cities all over Ethiopia.

May I wish Dr. Robert Sucher and Dr. Abay Wodaje a successful continuation of the recent work in medical affairs, saving life of many people, providing as many supporting medical treatments as possible and to improve the service of Kalkidan Clinic in Lalibela.

After thestart of the project in November 12, 2013, the project had to be shifted fromBahir Dar to Lalibela. Both cities are located in the same Regional State ofthe Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. Lalibela offered a feasibleproject infrastructure through a strong support of our Ethiopian ProjectManager, Mr. Endayene Mulugeta. He gave permission to use his office within theLalibela Hotel as project bureau, and is supervising the monthly payments toour pupils and students. Moreover, he has relevant contacts to all involvedschools, respectively school directors, which is important in regards of theselection of students for the support programme as well as the collection of annualschool certificates for the evaluation of the performance of our students.

All togetherwe have supported with the donated amount of

    € 2.038 from 12.11.2013till 06.06.2018

11 students for 5 years – from winter term 2013/2014till summer term 2018

with thetransfer of € 180, -- per year, which is equivalent € 15, -- per months,

inEthiopian currency, ETB 400, -- per month for 5 years.

Wedemonstrated, that with comparatively small monthly amounts so much could be donefor these high performing students in Ethiopia, who came from very poor familiesfrom the country side, who could not afford either rent payments, food or a singlebook. The project team is expressing the highest gratitude to our generous donorsand Respekt.net.

All supportedstudents are belonging to the most talented and skilled ones in Lalibela, carefullyselected by the school directors and our project manager, Mr. EndayeneMulugeta. All of them passed with highest grades primary school, secondaryschool, preparatory school and are studying currently on different universitiesin Ethiopia. We discussed with all of them at our regular students’ meetings, twicea year, that their contribution to the development of Ethiopia is highlyrequested and they happily agreed.
